Lia is a sophomore at Howard Community College. In the summer of 2015 she is traveling with a group of college-aged students on a 49 day, 4,000+ mile run from San Francisco to Baltimore.

What is your connection to the Cancer Community?

Growing up soccer was a huge part of my life. On any given night you could find me on a field practicing until dark. I had the great pleasure to play with and against Amanda Josephine Post whose love for soccer was tremendous. Amanda passed away in 2009 during her freshman year at River Hill High School due to complications from a bone marrow transplant for relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

My 11th grade chemestry teacher Mr Dibler recently passed away this past april from esophageal cancer. He was the sweetest man with the most infectious smile!

I also want to acknowledge two incredible women, Mrs. Sue Midas and Mrs. Elizabeth Ferrick, who kicked breast cancer in the butt!!!

Why are you traveling over 4000 miles this summer with the 4K?

I am traveling 4,000 miles this summer and dedicating my run to Amanda!! Running with 4K is an amazing once in a life time experience where I get to do what I love while helping people. My family takes road trips quite frequently, but the  chance to experience the road on foot will be something so much different. One of the most amazing things that I love about 4K is that as we travel across the country, we visit hospitals and patients, and get to see exactly where the money we fundraised goes! I love making people laugh and smile, and I hope I can make as many people smile and laugh this summer!!
